Rare Baseball Cards - A Great Investment

by Menachem Green

Collecting baseball cards is a hobby that many people enjoy in life. Coming across a card that they don't yet have in their collection is just about the most exciting thing to a collector. Vintage cards the more rare cards are the ones most sought after by collectors and, of course, they have much more monetary value.

The majority of old baseball cards are copies, but you can still find some originals out there. The originals are very valuable as they are quite rare and not often seen out in the open. The term rare can mean there are about 100 or less in existence. These items are priced based on how obtainable they are and what condition they are in.

Many rare baseball cards are those of very recognizable players that had spectacular and even historical baseball careers. Cards of players like Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and even Honus Wagner are among this group. These cards were collectables even during the time these players were actively playing the game and are even more valuable today.

Most specimens of rare baseball cards have flaws- worn edges, rounded corners, even creases. These imperfections are usually not the result of the card being abused so much as the result of the cards being made of low-quality material, which wasn't expected to last for many years. Most of the customers buying the cards were children at the time and certainly didn't expect to keep the card forever, so they usually didn't try to protect the card from wear.

Now unless there is a large amount of damage to the cards, these rare baseball cards still have the ability of causing lots of excitement when they appear in public. The main reason for this being the lack of cards which can be found by baseball collectors. For this reason when one of these rare baseball cards like that of the T206 Honus Wagner card surfaces you can see that collectors and wealthy fans themselves are gearing up for a high stakes bidding.

Synonymous with baseball trading cards, The Topps Company has a long and very rich history within the sport. Topps produced its first Topps baseball cards set in 1951 with the game- oriented Red and Black set. But it was the 1952 set that really brought the modern sports trading card to life. Rich with history and intrigue, the 1952 set is now one of the more revered and valued card sets of all time.

Topps has continued to produce Topps baseball cards sets ever since and today Topps continues to build on its established tradition. Armed with the latest technologies and an unparalleled stable of brands, The Topps Company is leading the charge into the next generation of baseball trading cards.

The majority of collectors, even serious ones, do not have the means to deal in Wagners and Ruths. In recent years, MLB cards from the '70s have proven to be a great investment for the common collector. Cards of Mike Schmidt, Carlton Fisk, Steve Garvey, Dusty Baker, and other greats from the era have shown a marked increase in value.

MLB cards of 70s are still affordable to most people even though their worth is keep on growing. Many of the MLB cards which can be considered as best can be bought under $300. Since their growth potential is very high they can earn a good profit to the collector of these cards.

Collecting baseball cards as a hobby is quite popular with many people. Collectors find it exciting and sometimes very profitable, especially when they can locate genuine vintage cards. Most old baseball cards are copies, but originals are out there. Unless a card has been significantly damaged, rare baseball cards cause a lot of excitement when they appear in public. The Topps Company, established in 1951, is an expert in the field of baseball card production. Topps baseball cards are highly sought-after. Some can be astronomically expensive, but MLB cards from the 1970s have turned out to be a great investment that the common collector can generally afford.
