What Do Bedbugs Look Like And What Do They Do?
Bed bugs are tiny insects which are wingless and they nourish themselves solely on the blood of animals and humans. Bedbugs look for people as well as animals, usually at night time when they are sleeping, and they painlessly draw some blood.
So what exactly do bedbugs look like, you ask? Well, while they are indeed extremely small in size, they can nonetheless be seen. They are roughly as large as the fingernail on your pinky. And they will either have a red or a brown hue.
If given the chance they will feed on human blood just as well as they would feed on animal blood. How do bedbugs look when they reach adulthood? Normally adult bedbugs are in a size of about 1/4 of an inch. There have been times that people have mistaken cockroaches for bedbugs.
What do bedbugs look like before they become adults? Newborn bed bugs are called nymphs. They are similar to an adult bed bug. Only difference lies in their color. They are slightly lighter in color and rather small. Bedbugs cannot fly, but they are able to move swiftly over floors and walls. They also climb the ceilings and other places.
The mother bedbug will choose her nests carefully. Usually she will lay about five eggs a day in many locations, including carpets and bed linens. Over her life she might lay five hundred eggs. These eggs are too small to be seen without a microscope. They are small and tend to be a white or off-white color. They are also very sticky and can be tracked around the house if stepped on. It only takes a few weeks from an egg hatching for the nymph to become a full-fledged adult bedbug.
Bedbugs can typically be found close to their food source-your bed. Check for blood stains and bedbug excrement around your mattress. Examine the carpeting around your bed, too. They like to hide in the cracks and seams, around the corners of the mattress, and by the headboard as well. Providing you carefully scrutinize these areas in and around your bed, you can avoid bedbug bites.
