It’s been a bit rainy these past few days, but I managed to get a picture of this pink tulip growing in my garden. Looks like it is waiting for some sunshine before it opens up!

Pink tulips are beautiful flowers and I have several “clumps” of them all around the garden. I like to plant them in clusters because I think it maximizes the color effect. This particular pink tulip is in front of my azalea bush (you can see it in the background) and they make a nice contrast.

pink tulipTulip growing is really not that difficult. You can buy the bulbs at any time of year and in any garden store – even Home Depot or Lowes, but you really should wait until the fall because that is when they are best planted.

When planting tulip bulbs, dig down into the ground about 3 times as deep as the width of the bulb. Place the tulip bulb in the hole with the pointed side up. Tulips like a sunny spot, so keep this in mind when choosing the spot to plant your pink tulip patch!

If you want clusters of tulip, then just dig one big hole and place 4 or 5 bulbs in there, then fill in. Each year you will get more and more tulips, so you might want to plan for digging up some of the bulbs at some point and moving them to another spot in the garden.

When it comes to tulip growing, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. The hybrids will be gorgeous in the first year, not so gorgeous then next year and then die out all together after that. The species tulips flower every year and multiply.
