You can buy preformed pond liners that are 12, 18 or 24" deep. If you plan to keep fish in them, then you need to make sure that you get one deep enough so that some of the water is below the frost line so that there will be some unfrozen water for the fish in the winter. They come in sizes from about 36" to 93" in differing shapes - some with preformed islands!

Of course, if you are installing a performed pond liner, then you are limited to the size and shape of the liner. If you don't think the size will suit you for very long, then it is best to go with a liner that you can shape and size yourself. Since the pre-form ponds are basically a tub that you set into the ground, some may thing they are not as aesthetically pleasing as a free form pond but you can use plants and rocks to camouflage the edges and make them just as appealing. If you only have a small space for a pond in your garden, then this might be just the ticket for you!

If you are planning on keeping fish in your pre-form pond then keep in mind that you will need to have a good filtration system in order to keep the water quality at the levels necessary to maintain healthy fish.
